Prairie Desire largely delivered on excellent potential but I can't give it more than 3.5-stars. It is well-written and well-edited. The intimate scenes between Hope and Ben are nicely delivered and steamy. These were two strong characters who complemented each other. Props to alpha-Ben for not allowing himself to be Hope's secret, and for the loving way he protected and supported her...for the most part. He built Hope a tree house and climbed up a real house for her; what's not to love there? The supporting cast, Ben and Hope's families and Buttercup, added interest and were sometimes entertaining. The setting was described well by the author.Unfortunately, it's a pet peeve of mine when a character doesn't talk honestly and openly to the person he or she claims to love. **MINOR SPOILER AHEAD**. One of the main characters has a secret and it's embarrassing. While it's significant, it's not a matter of life or death. Spill it and move on! The angst surrounding this was overblown in my opinion. One star lost for that and half a star lost for a very juvenile prank that Hope's brother's pulled early in the book. It was more dangerous than funny, even in this small town setting.
I'll try this author again.

Pretty good story. Ben and Hope really were so much alike. But, Ben was quite rigid in some of his beliefs and not in a good way. Loved the wedding and birth.
Another great story in the series. This was a second chance, friend to lovers story. Ben and Hope were great together!!!
Tessa Layne writes a believable romance with a little conflict. What relationship doesn't have any? I've enjoyed all three Prairie books so far and intend to read the rest as they are released. I live in the Flint Hills of Kansas and can look out my window at the rolling prairie grasses as I read. Enjoyable. Well worth the read.
I was so excited for Ben and Hope's story! Ben has been my favorite from the beginning and I wanted him to have the perfect women. A women who I thought was good enough for him. Well Tessa Layne did not let me down!! I recommend the entire series but do not miss the one. It's my favorite one yet!
Another fantastic story by Tessa. I loved seeing his Ben and hope had a misunderstanding as young adults that caused then to move on from their friendship.
As they got older and Hope came home, they were able to build on that friendship and eventually move on. A great story of friendship and love along with learning to be honest and open. Can't wait for the next.
I don't often write a review but these books are really good. I have read the first three books and they are great. You know there will be some kind of problem but you are always surprised at what it is and how the couple works the problem out. I think these books are pretty real to life. We all have problems to deal with but they are easier when we work them out with the one we love.
This series gets better with each book and Ms. Layne writes with so much love and emotion, the characters jump right off the page and into your heart. I loved the story of Ben Sinclaire, the sensitive brother, and his second chance romance with Hope Hansen, who came home after eight years of living in Kentucky. As soon as I started reading I knew I wouldn't be able to put the book down until I read the last word and then I wanted the book to continue. I can't wait to read book four in the Cowboys of the Flint Hills series.
